Matthew Zapf MD MSc is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of simple to complex shoulder, hip, and knee injuries.

 

As a sports medicine doctor focused on helping athletes return to their careers or passions after injury, Dr. Zapf will exhaust non-operative treatment whenever possible before operative intervention is discussed. He believes in a team-oriented approach to patient care to achieve the best, patient-specific, outcome.

 

He is a team physician for the United States Ski and Snowboard Association and was previously a team physician for the New Mexico Highlands University Football team.

About Dr. Matthew Zapf

As an avid sports fan and athlete who enjoys cycling, trail running, hiking and skiing, Dr. Zapf understands the passion driving athletes to dedicate themselves to a sport – and he understands the devastation an injury can cause. That’s why Dr. Zapf has made it his life’s work to help athletes with complex shoulder, knee and hip injuries regain the function and strength they need to continue pursuing their passions.

 

Dr. Zapf is a Southern California native returning to his home state after completing his surgical training. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of California at Berkeley and graduate studies at Georgetown University before matriculating toNew York Medical College (NYMC), where he earned his medical doctorate. While at NYMC, Dr. Zapf was elected to the prestigious nationwide medical honors society Alpha Omega Alpha and was the recipient of the Merck Award for Academic Excellence. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and an ACGME accredited sports medicine surgical fellowship at the Taos Orthopaedic Institute in Taos, New Mexico.
